Bali Recap: The Markets
We went to some sort of market each day we were in Bali. these are some of my favorite photos from walking around. They are very good at carrying loads on their heads. This stack of eggs was one of my favorite sights. I even saw a woman carrying a big bunch of herbs as she walked through the food market. I thought it was such a funny sight, since herbs are not very heavy, but why use your hands when you have your head!
There were things for sale, everywhere! I loved seeing them hang from the rafters.
There were so many textures to be seen. To me a paradise for photography. In the far corner you can see the banana leaves tied up to use. And they do use it for everything. Place mats, plate coverings (so they don't have to wash the plates after eating, maybe?) and of course baskets and offerings.
So many things for sale. Banana blossoms, coconuts, cilantro, lettuce.
Potatoes, tomatoes, chilies and shallots
And their beautiful offerings. This woman was busy making offerings to sell for those that are too busy in the morning to make up their own. Aren't the colors amazing? Marigolds, frangipani and the green stuff was pandan leaf! That is a fragrant leaf they use in cooking both savories and sweets.
This is the temple just outside the main market area. You can see this woman busy giving up offerings. What you don't see is the mounds of offerings laying on the floor and alters of the rest of the temple. It was quite a sight. Every time we passed this place, there was many women here giving offerings and burning incense. There are temples everywhere. All of them ancient and beautiful.
