The Local Fare

Week one has proven to be trying for the kids in the food department. Now don't get me wrong, they are totally willing to try most of what we have given them, but you can only go so long before you want a good burger or slice of pizza (both of which we have found and payed through the nose for).

So because of that we are eating a lot of rice and noodles. We finally purchased our first rice cooker EVER. Which is kind of a sad statement. We have been enjoying it though. Lots of rice here to choose from. I don't think the selection can get much better. We have Grandpa hooked on sticky rice with mangos, although the kids don't care for it. This is our little kitchen. Isn't it cute?! (You know that's a joke, right?)
Since we don't have our furniture yet, the boys use this little step into the kitchen to eat on. You should have seen the mess after this meal. We finally got a sheet to use as a table cloth, but sitting on the floor is getting really old. Ronin is loving the challenge of chopsticks (and chinese!) but Cache prefers a fork. And we prefer him to have one after the mess he has made.
We have been a little concerned that the kids are not getting what they need to eat because its not offered. It's the first time in their lives I have worried about it. Kai is constantly thirsty and gets crabby if he is dehydrated. And Cache is constantly saying how starving he is. I think its part boredom (school start please!) and since Ronin is the oldest he tends to fend for himself pretty well. We are holding out strong for our shipment and the goods it will bring. Spaghetti sauce (thats not 6$ a jar), Pancake mix and our waffle maker! We did manage to find some nutella which has helped them settle down a bit. Nothing takes the edge off more than bread and nutella. Can't wait to get cooking bread again though. We are going to need it considering the price of bread (expensive!) and the size of the loaf (10 slices!). We go through a loaf a day. At this point we need to reevaluate what we eat. It will save us a ton on groceries. I am sure there is a good medium we can find and look forward to eating ourselves there.
