East Coast

We went out one of the first nights to check out our neighborhood. We chose the East Coast of Singapore based on some friends who lived here years back. After describing what the feel was like we thought it would suit us best. And we were right!

Right down from our apartment complex is the beach. There is a beach walk that goes along the coast. And it is full of people enjoying themselves. You can see the boats out in the harbor. They are mostly cargo ships and they come and go all day long.
We found the Extreme Skate Park. And it is extreme AND awesome! You can see all kinds of wheels here. Bikes, skateboards, roller blades. And all types of people. Girls, boys, adults. Even little kids (which you can see sitting watching in the background). The boys seemed fascinated by it all. Cache wanted to drop right into the bottom of one of the skating basins (i have NO idea what they call it). He teetered on the edge and my heart dropped. While part of me would love for them to learn to skate and enjoy this place, the other part of me was scared to death. Scared for their safety and also what they might encounter here at the park. I think over all they would be fine, as long as I'm here to supervise. It was pretty cool and I realized I might not have enough courage to raise boys!
We found these cool rain forest trees. The roots look like they are dripping right into the ground. They run really shallow along the surface of the dirt. It looks like snakes all around. Very Cool.
When we finally made it to the beach all the kids wanted to do was play in the sand. They got a taste of it in California and I think they will love it here.
There is a long jetty that goes out. It is full of locals fishing which is something I am sure the boys would love to do too.
It was a beautiful time and it made us excited for this new neighborhood we live in. It's got a relaxed vibe and while everyone is strangers, it feels oddly close knit. Everyone out enjoying themselves among the same environment. It was nice. So welcome to the neighborhood! Now you know what we can see every day when we choose to slow down and enjoy the place. We like.
