Dumpster Diving

We have never been people to pick up others trash... until we moved to the city. NY thrives on the notion that one mans trash is another's treasure. As the story goes, Patrick was coming home last week and saw a circle futon in the trash (if that is even what it is called... I don't know) Well, he left the pad there (ick!) but brought the base home to be our new swing:

And here it is!!! Only someone as handy as Patrick could pull this off. He dug out some old repelling rope and rigged it up to the underside of the balcony. It looks pretty high off the ground but it isn't. Well, it kind of is when you are swinging.

As you can see, Ronin is a bit frightened of the entire thing. This is actually day two of even having it and he is still not too keen on the idea.
As you can see, Cache was the opposite (he has Patrick's genes!). He was never scared of the swing and wanted to stay in it all day. Here he is getting a big push... so scary to watch as the mom. If that disk comes undone it will fly through the air like a frisbee and land who knows where, with my little one inside!! Cache didn't care at all.
The first day Ronin would only go in it with Patrick's supervision. I am VERY impressed that it stayed up considering the weight.  I am a bit frightened by the whole thing. Ronin and I are SO alike!! Patrick loved every minute of it though.

We were out in the yard all day on saturday swinging, working, weeding and playing. It was very delightful and we both commented that we felt like our parents. They work hard all day saturday and then order pizza, watch a movie and go to bed early. We did most of that. The watching the movie and bed time got derailed with a last minute call to teach a lesson at church the next day. Oh, well, not every day can be perfect and at least the pizza was good.
It is so nice having spring in the air. What a wonderful day.

That looks like so much fun! I want to sleep there someday. It has always amazed me what some guys (like Pat and Jas) can do with a bit of rope and some wood! I also love how the swing illustrates which boy is like which parent in so many ways! Enjoy spring, we are!

WOW! I'm impressed. I want to swing too. We bought this place because of the rope swing. You Dad used to swing me at the end of the day! Thanks for the memories. Love G in Utah
